Educate Your Judge

My inspiration level is at an all-time high spurred largely by a mom in New Orleans. This mom had reached her limit in Family Court and purchased a set of BILLBOARDS to educate the judges in her area. To read more, click here. Because of this, an OMB billboard committee is forming to ensure that more billboards go up which will bring additional media exposure which in turn means education. If you bring a special skillset to the table and would like to be involved in the committee, email and let me know what you can offer (fundraising background, project management, etc).

It is so easy to become jaded on family court. Believe me…I hear your battlecry mainly because I often feel the same way! Here is what I know: There are Family Court professionals who ARE operating in the best interest of our children. There are good judges, fantastic attorneys, dedicated GAL’s and evaluators who are not corrupt. I know this because I communicate with these individuals – they are on our OMB Facebook page daily learning about our struggles and emailing me from time to time to tell me that we are making a difference. I also know that there are professionals who simply lack education.

I have always taken an approach that is a bit different from most organizations — it is not my goal to go up against the system. It is my goal to work with the system to make changes and educate. Many may call that pollyannic – but I know that our educational efforts make a difference. There is a lack of education and research in the mental health world – namely, the impact that a Cluster B personality disordered parents have on their children. I see diagnosed sociopaths (antisocial personality disorder) receive 50/50 custody. This has to stop.

Are you interested in educating YOUR family court professionals? While a billboard may not be in your budget, there are other ways that you can start. OMB is currently creating another round of educational packets (my kitchen table has been taken over!) and I would love to send one to your judge or family court professional. The best part: the packets are send from OMB so it is anonymous and there are no ties to you or your case!

One Mom’s Battle: Our mission at One Mom’s Battle is to increase awareness of Cluster B personality disorders (Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder) and their impact upon shared parenting and the Family Court System which includes Judges, CPS workers, Guardian ad Litems (GAL), Parenting Coordinators (PC), Custody Evaluators, therapists and attorneys. Education on Cluster B disorders will allow these professionals to truly act in the best interest of the children.

History of One Mom’s Battle: In 2009, One Mom’s Battle began with one mother, (Tina Swithin), navigating the choppy waters of a high-conflict divorce in the Family Court System. Since then, it has turned into a grassroots movement reaching the far corners of the Earth. Tina’s battle spanned from 2009 – 2014 during which time she acted as her own attorney. Ultimately, Tina was successful in protecting her daughters and her family has enjoyed complete peace since October 2014 when a Family Court commissioner called her ex-husband a “sociopath” and revoked his parenting time in a final custody order.

Tina Swithin: Tina Swithin’s books are available online at Amazon (print, Kindle or audio format). Each year, Tina offers life-changing weekends of camaraderie and healing at the Lemonade Power Retreat.  Tina also offers one-on-one coaching services and a private, secure forum called, The Lemonade Club, for those enduring high-conflict custody battles.
